Creating a Scene … With Google Vids

What is Google Vids? A New Way to Create Life-Like Videos with AI

Google Vids is Google Workspace’s new AI-powered video creation tool that makes producing professional-quality videos fast, simple, and accessible. Like Google Docs or Slides, it’s built for ease of use and collaboration – but with the added power of generative AI to bring your story to life with visuals, sound, and even dialogue.

What sets Google Vids apart is its ability to generate life-like characters that move and speak naturally. You can prompt it with a scene idea, and it will build a video complete with motion, voiceovers, and sound effects.

In one of our experiments with Google Vids – see the video above – we prompted it to generate a scene of a woman walking in the desert toward the camera with the sun beating down. The result was surprisingly cinematic. The lighting, motion, and composition came together in a way that felt polished and film-like. Most notably, the woman appeared quite life-like – far more realistic than what we've seen from other text-to-video tools like Adobe Firefly, which tend to produce more obviously AI-generated visuals.

The audio was also impressive. Google Vids automatically added a synchronized sound effect of footsteps that perfectly matched her walking rhythm. Since Google Vid scenes are currently limited to eight seconds, we generated three separate clips using the same prompt, then connected them with dissolve transitions to portray a longer journey. We wrapped the sequence with a brief line of dialogue to give meaning to her path and added a moody, isolated soundtrack that enhanced the tone.

What amazed us most was how the woman's face conveyed emotion – specifically sadness and remorse – based on our prompted dialogue. Even more striking, she actually lets out a sigh, timed naturally with the moment of reflection in the scene. It suggests that AI-generated characters can now “act” with subtle expression and vocal nuance that align with their lines. This could be a game-changer for content creation, where the AI prompter essentially becomes the director – guiding not only the script but the emotional performance as well.

At Designsite, we're always experimenting with the latest technologies like Google Vids so we can bring fresh, cutting-edge solutions to our clients. By staying ahead of the curve, we help small businesses stand out, tell their stories in new ways, and stay one step ahead of the competition.

Postscript

Google Vids currently limits you to creating just three videos per day, with a maximum of 8 seconds. With our “movie” above in mind as the ending, we decided to craft a preceding scene to give it more context. In this new clip, a woman searches through a drawer, discovers a ring, and pauses to examine it. The AI even added fitting sound effects to bring the moment to life. Since AI visuals can sometimes feel overly polished – and unmistakably “AI” – we refined our prompt to give the scene a warm, nostalgic 1970s look and feel. Click below to watch.
