Designsite Designs a Website Mindful of its Audience

Blue Cliff Monastery, based in the upstate Southern Catskill region in New York, is a mindfulness practice center and monastic training center founded by the Vietnamese Buddhist monk, author, and peace activist, Thich Nhat Hanh. Blue Cliff is part of a larger family of monasteries around the U.S.

Designsite was commissioned to design and produce a new website that would accurately reflect the Blue Cliff story and appeal to a growing younger demographic. We recommended Squarespace as the content management system, enabling us to build a fully responsive and modern website that worked across all computers and mobile devices, reaching an audience on the go. We also offered search engine optimization (SEO) services, ensuring the website ranks high in Google and other search engines.

The website enables visitors to register for retreats, view calendar of events, make donations, get directions, and most importantly, learn about practice the lessons to deepen the path to mindfulness.

In addition, The Unified Buddhist Church enlisted Designsite to design the format for their family of U.S. monasteries, based on the Blue Cliff website. Because some of the monasteries wanted to keep using WordPress as their platform of choice, we designed an original WordPress theme that would enable individual monasteries to easily modify their websites to ensure consistency with their respective monasteries.
